Weather reports for the 1999-2000 storm season:

Reports for October 24-25, 2000:

    * A flash flood in the Tel-Aviv area on Tuesday night produced a massive 80 milimeters of rain in 6 hours. A four year old child drowned, and hundreds of people had to be evacuated.

Reports for October 14-15, 2000:

    * A very deep low pressure in 500mb came down from Europe and along with a Red Sea Trough caused massive thunderstorms to develop almost everywhere in Israel. Heavy rains flooded the Judean Desert, the Dead Sea and the Arava, and roads were closed. The congestion was amazing - within 30 minutes a sunny Jerusalem on Saturday morning was under a thick Anvil from a single cell, which became multi-cellar and lingered for 7 hours.

Watches and warnings for October 15, 2000:

    * Flash flood warning for Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the Arava and the Jordan River Valley. Severe Thunderstorm warning for Jerusalem, The Negev Desert, and the Arava.

Watches and warnings for October 14, 2000:

    * Flash flood warning for Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the Arava and the Jordan River Valley.

Reports for October 12, 2000:

    * The 2000-2001 storm chasing season has started in Israel! The Red Sea Trough is now making it's debut, with a chance for thunderstorms.

Reports for July, 2000:

    * This July was one of the hottest ever recorded in Israel. Global warming is dangerously here.

Watches and warnings for March 7-8, 2000:

    * Winter storm warning for all areas above 400 meters.

Reports for March 1, 2000:

    * Numerous thunderstorms developed across Israel, but the center of activity was Jerusalem, with severe storms one after another. A lightning strike from one storm in particular hit about 100 meters away from me, one of the closest lightning bolts I have ever encountered. The thunder was deafening, to say the least.

Reports for January 27-28, 2000:

    * January just keeps blasting us with storms! This time it was snow - the heaviest recorded in years. A very low pressure storm center at 500mb came down to the Middle-East from northern Europe, bringing with it heavy rains, thunderstorms, hail and of course snow to every area in Israel higher than 200 meters. Jerusalem totaled 2 feet of snow. Snow in the Hermon Mountain accumulated to 18 feet. Snow was even recorded at Be'er Sheva (at the Negev Desert) and at some coastal cities. Thousands of people rushed to Jerusalem on Saturday to witness the spectacle.

Reports for January 24, 2000:

    * 21 days passed since my last update, and we had 5 different low pressure storms pass through Israel during that time, a very high number indeed. It looks like the drought is finally breaking! Record setting rainfall fell in parts of Israel, including Tel-Aviv which had 200 mm in 3 days, 140 of them in a single day. If only that amount would have fallen equally between November and January... The amazingly heavy rain caused extensive floodings and millions of dollars of damage. Hunderds of people had to be evacuated.

Reports for January 3, 2000:

    * At last, after months of dry weather, it looks like winter is finally heading towards us. A deep winter storm is developing right above Israel, and is forecasted to bring stormy weather for the next few days. There is even a possibility of snow... We'll have to keep a close eye on this one, since forecasts have had a tendency to change in these past 2 years of drought.

Reports for autumn (September-November) 1999:

    * The drought hasn't left Israel yet. This year's autumn was ever worse than last year's. We only had 10-30% of the average rainfall for this time of year. Let's hope winter will help the serious drought situation in the Middle-East.

Reports for November 27-30:

    * A Siberian high was affecting Israel for the past few days, bringing unusually cold and dry weather. Temperatures in Jerusalem reached an almost record low of -6 C on November 28.
